Shutter installation

The process of product design and installation and timeframes for job completion

Many people order custom interior products without really thinking about it. Perhaps a bed you have ordered took 4 weeks to arrive. Maybe a sofa or other interior product took a few weeks to get to you from the factory in Italy. This is precisely what it’s like when ordering house shutters for your windows.

Firstly we begin with a design appointment or design consultation. Janet will generally make this initial appointment with potential clients as she knows what is what in interiors so can offer exceptional advice with how best to treat your windows with house shutters. At the appointment she will make suggestions for colours, opening methods of the shutters, hanging styles, like cafe shutters, or full height shutters, and then if you are interested in progressing further Janet will take approximate measurements in order to provide a quotation. You can contact us right away in order to make an appointment now.

Shutters for odd shaped windows or irregular windows

There are lots of properties in the UK and USA which have irregular shaped windows installed. Odd shaped windows are not ideally suited for hanging curtains as they will take up far more space then the shape of the window, nor are irregular windows ideal for blinds which will fit most square or rectangular windows.

With a property with oval, round or triangular windows, shutters are a great solution. Most companies who install shutters will be able to custom make their window coverings to accommodate many special shapes. This can look really stunning for example if you have a porthole window, or as is often the case above doors, arched windows and so on. Having a feature window with a perfectly fitting plantation shutter mounted either within a recess if it is like a bay, or flush mounted against a wall really can add value to your home we believe. Draping curtains covering the shape however doesn’t add much in our opinion and only serves to reduce the individuality of special shaped windows.

Measuring your windows for DIY odd shaped shutters can be a lot trickier, and in fact we don’t know of many suppliers who will offer custom shapes for windows as it is difficult to convey the dimensions correctly, which can lead to mis-fitting or lots of shaving down frames if the angles are wrong!  One supplier here in the US shows nicely how to measure for shaped windows and even has some options for online ordering through a clever use of images in their store. The PDF available for download shows the best way to take multiple measurements for arches so that the angle can be calculated for the curve at manufacture. We would always recommend double checking with your chosen supplier in order to ensure the best possible fit on delivery. And if you are having irregular window shutters installed by a company double check the dimensions with them so that you might avoid any pitfalls.

Treat your special shaped windows with custom made plantation shutters which are the perfect fit and really bring out the natural beauty of your home!
